One of the bosses at Staffordshire main's hospital is set to join the House of Lords.
Shaista Gohir OBE, a non-executive director at Univerity Hospitals of North Staffordshire, has been recommended for a non-party political peerage by the House of Lords Appointments Commission.
Commissioners made the recommendation in recognition of Ms Gohir's extensive experience in the charity sector, her work as a leading women's rights campaigner and status as one of the most influential Muslim women in Britain.
In addition to her role at UHNM, she serves as the chief executive at the Muslim Women’s Network UK and is the Women’s Voices Lead at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Last year Ms Gohir founded the Nisa Global Foundation, a charity which helps women and girls in developing countries.
